What government policies helped american industry to produce large quantities of war materials?
Several factors contributed to the United States becoming the "Arsenal of Democracy." The large-scale conversion of industries from producing civilian goods to badly needed military items was one. The government became the top client for many industries. For example, all automobile plants switched over to military vehicle production lines. Also, rationing of key war materials such as iron, copper and oil not only severally limited consumption of normal domestic items, but required industrial expansion to process and produce them.
