Base of box is 20x30 cm

 

This is the legs of a right triangle.

Hypotenuse = diagonal

h² = 20²+30²

h²=1300

h = √1300 = 36.06 cm

 

Rounded to the nearest cm you can

fit a 36cm long pencil diagonally in

the box.
