Which is better?

A farmer needs to purchase hay to feed his horses. He is on a budget and must buy the hay that is most economical. The two options he has are:

Round bale: 4 feet diameter and 5 feet height

Square bale: 2 feet by 2 feet by 4 feet

Round bales are $25 a bale and square bales are $10 a bale.

Which type will be most economical?

Volume of Round Shape = Pi R² H = pi * 4* 5 = pi * 20  and cost $ 25

 

Cost per unit volume =( 25/volume ) = 25 / (3.14 *2*2*5 ) = 0.398 $/ ft³ 

 

For Square bale

Cost per unit Volume = 10/ ( 2*2*4 ) = 0.625 $ / ft ³

 

So round one is economical
