a  pilot  lcan travel 540 miles  with the wind in the same amount of time as 340 miles against the wind. find the speed of the wind of the pilots speed instill air is 220 mph.

d = rt, so t = d/r. Let w = the speed of the wind.

 

Since the times are equal,

 

540/(220 + w) = 340/(220 - w)

 

Cross multiply.

 

540(220 - w) = 340(220 + w)
