Well, they stopped in North Dakota twice; once on the outbound trip, and once on the return trip. The outbound trip stop wound up turning into a wintering over and so they built a small fort they called Fort Mandan, which was named after the local friendly Indian tribe. It was located near the present day city of Washburn.
