Did the Scarecrow get the Pythagorean Theorem right? In particular, point out and describe the errors in the Scarecrow's statement.

In the 1939 movie The Wizard of Oz, upon being presented with a Th.D. (Doctor of Thinkology), the Scarecrow proudly exclaims, "The sum of the square roots of any two sides of an isosceles triangle is equal to the square root of the remaining side."

Technically for the movie he is correct. I'll explain. Dorothy is in oz which isn't real. Remember that. Ok tinman didn't get a heart he got a clock, right? Shaped like a heart but not one. The lion never had courage the entire time, ever right? The scarecrow didn't receive a real diploma and the proof is he messed up the Pythagorean theorem entirely and Dorothy was just knocked out so she didn't have to use ruby slippers to go home because she never left. It all adds up to the scarecrow was correct in saying what he said to prove this point.

The sum of the square roots of any two sides of an isosceles triangle is equal to the square root of the remaining side. Changes to: The sum of the squares of the legs of a right triangle is equal to the square root of the hypotenuse.
