A plant in Darnell's garden was 12 cm tall when it was first planted. Since then, it has grown approximately 0.5 cm per day.

 

1. Write a rule to describe the function. 

 

2. After how many days will the plant be 0.185 meters tall?

The growth can be expressed as:

 

12 + 0.5x, where x = the number of days

 

1 m = 100 cm, so 

0.185 m = 185/1000 m = 185 (100)/1000 cm = 18.5 cm

 

12 + 0.5x = 18.5

0.5x = 6.5

x = 13 days
