To that we add her base salary of 19,000

 

Her earnings are thus:

.05s + 19,000

 

We wish to earn $52,000 so set this equal to 52,000 and solve for s

 

.05s + 19000 = 52000     subtract 19000 from both sides

.05s = 33000                  divide both sides by .05

s = 33000/.05

s = $660,000

 

She must sell $660,000 worth of furniture to earn $52,000
