Karl needs to build a stage that has an area of 72 square feet. The length of the stage should be longer than the width. What are the possible whole number measurements for the length and width of the stage?

Area of the stage will be length times width.  So we need to find factors of 72.  Those factors are

 

1, 2, 3 , 4,  6,  8,  9,  12,  18 , 24 , 36 , 72

 

 

So here are you possible whole number measurements:

 

72 feet by 1 foot

36 feet by 2 feet

24 feet by 3 feet

18 feet by 4 feet

12 feet by 6 feet

9 feet by 8 feet
