First, you want to treat inequalities exactly like you would a normal equation. There is one *major* exception, though - every time you multiply or divide across the inequality with a negative number, you need to change the direction of the inequality.
So, first, we divide both sides by 3 to get
(d - 1) > -4/3
Now, add 1 to each side
d > -4/3 + 1
d > -1/3
We did not have to use the special rule about the negative numbers here, but it is good to keep in your mind.
