Hi Muhammad,
Start off with what you know (for this problem, it really helps to keep track of your units):
d: distance from home= 40 miles
v: velocity= 65 miles/ hour
what you want to know is the total distance he traveled (D) after h hours
So, to set up your problem, it would look something like this:
D= v*h + d or
D= (65 miles/ hour)(h hours) + 40 miles
Notice how your hours cancel each other out and you're left with miles for your total distance.
