Im having a hard time with this question: 10-9×24÷8×6

I got down the multiplication, i just can't figure out what 216 divided by 48 is. One answer was 4.14 but I didn't think it was right and another answer was 4.20 and it didn't feel right again so I used a calculator and it said the answer is 4.20833333 and on.  I need help asap.Thanks alot.

You are on the right track! You're thinking PEMDAS, right? It turns out that there is a little more nuance to that rule. It should really look more like PE(MD)(AS) where the multiplication and division steps are equal, and should be completed from left-to-right. The same goes for the addition and subtraction group.

 

So, the first thing we do is 9*24 = 216, like you said.

 

Now, we divide by 8 to get 27

 

Now, multiply by 6 to get 162

 

Now, since we have completed all the multiplication and division from left-to-right, we move on to addition/subtraction.

 

10 - 162 = -152

By the rules of order of arithmetic operations, 

 

10-9×24÷8×6 = 10 - [9x(24/8)x6] = 10 - (9 x 3 x 6) = 10 - 162 = -152
