In many waves, the structure tends to repeat itself as you move down the wave. It often looks like one part of the wave is just repeated over and over. That section of the wave that is repeated over and over has a certain length, and that is the wavelength. If it is 0.3 m, it means that the segment of the wave that repeats over and over is 0.3 m long.
