Two numbers are opposites if they are each the same distance away from zero, but on opposite sides of the number line.
(-13.2)+8.1 and 13.2+ (-8.1) are opposites (the negatives) of each other.
Just like (a) and (-a) are opposites and (4) and (-4) are opposites.
(-13.2)+8.1 and 13.2+ (-8.1) are opposites (the negatives) of each other.
Just like (a) and (-a) are opposites and (4) and (-4) are opposites.
Multiply each by (-1) to get the other.
(-1) ((-13.2)+8.1 ) = 13.2 + (-8.1)
and
(-1) (13.2 + (-8.1)) = (-13.2) + 8.1
Oh, if you do the calculations first, then
-5.1 and 5.1 are opposites
