If the circumference of a circle is 37" how much does it decrease if I decrease the radius by 1/2"?

If my husband's waist size is 37", and a plastic surgeon says he can use a method to remove 1/2 INCH of fat from an area, how much will that decrease is waist size?  Or, if the circumference of a circle is 37" how much does it decrease if I decrease the radius by 1/2"?

Sorry for the typo above. If the surgeon says he can remove one-half inch of fat from an area, i.e. decrease the radius by 1/2", what effect does that have on the circumference?

Removing 1/2" of fat "from an area" is not the same as decreasing the radius by 1/2".
To reduce the radius 1/2" a strip of fat 1/2" thick all around the body would need to be removed.

My question was, what happens if the radius is shortened by 1/2 inch. Not by half.

Just to clarify, you are saying that if the surgeon can remove one-half inch of fat from an area, that reduces a 37" waist to a 33.87" waist.
