does the amount of pulleys used in a pulley system affect mechanical advantage in any way? if it does, how?

Increasing the number of pulleys in a mechanical system reduces the amount of weight felt in each section of the rope or line that runs around the pulleys and attaches to the object being moved.  However, each pulley added brings an extra element of friction into the system.
