British society used to be worked on a class system based entirely on birth. If you were to be in the ruling class, you had to be born into the ruling class. If you were born a peasant, you were stuck as a peasant.
Now think about American society. Did people in the Americas have to stay in the same class that they were born into? Could someone become rich through his own designs? Did becoming a leader of society depend on if you were born into leadership or did it depend on you being skilled as a leader? Were people able to follow their own system of beliefs or did they have to follow the beliefs that the king wanted them to believe?
Imagine if you would, you found yourself able to do what you wanted and live the way that you wanted. Then someone shows up and tells you that you can't do that and have to do what he says. Would you just allow that to happen or would you fight to keep your freedom?
