I'm having a really hard time with this weekly math question. please explain this to me...

if the ratio of roses to tulips is 2 to 5, that means that 2 / (2 + 5) = 2/7 of the flowers in the bouquet are roses

then for 28 flowers you can just multiply by the fraction to convert it over into the total

28 x 2/7 = 56/7 = 8

meaning that there are 8 roses in a bouquet of 28 flowers

Hi Johanna, look at it this way: for every 2 roses in the bouquet, there are 5 tulips, which makes a total of 7 flowers.

 

Here is a table:

 

2 roses + 5 tulips = 7 flowers

 

4 roses + 10 tulips = 14 flowers

 

6 roses + 15 tulips = 21 flowers

 

8 roses + 20 tulips = 28 flowers
