Wanda and larry are neighbors and the sum of their house # is 794. Find their house numbers

Let x and x +2 be the the numbers of the two neighbors.

x + x + 2 = 794

x = 396

Therefore the house numbers of the two neighbors are 396 and 398

House numbers on the same side of the street are usually two apart.  

 

Let X = one house number.

 

x + 2 = the other house number

 

x + (x +2) = 794

 

That is the same as saying:

 

x + x + 2 = 794

 

Solve for x.  First subtract 2 from each side

 

x + x = 792

 

2x = 792

 

x = 396

 

The other house number x + 2 is 398

 

Check:  396 + 398 = 794

 

I don't think from the information given we can tell which number is Wanda and which is Larry.  if anyone can do that, hats off to ya!
