Recovering lawyer and passionate teacher
After practicing law for almost 30 years, I changed careers. I chose teaching social studies because my BA is in history. After practicing law for almost 30 years, I changed careers. I chose teaching social studies because my BA is in history. I am interested in economics and government, as well as law, and teaching has been a lifelong passion. I've taught AP economics and AP government as well as world history and geography. My background includes government, public policy and science, having been an environmental regulatory lawyer and earning a Masters in Public Administration, studying statistics and finance as well as administrative law and public administration. As a lawyer, I enjoyed most working with younger lawyers and helping them become better researchers and writers. I've taught both high school and middle school.
Assisting law students and helping them prepare for the bar exam and with legal research and writing is therefore something I have been doing for young colleagues for decades.
A common thread in my experience is working with students one-on-one or in small groups. Therefore, tutoring comes naturally to me. The analytical skills I acquired as a lawyer allow me to teach SAT, ACT, LSAT, GRE, GMAT test prep, in addition to law, history and economics, . essentially anything that requires critical thinking. This variety of subjects is a strength because it never gets boring and I am able to help more students.
I never go into a lesson without being prepared. In economics and government, I have prepared detailed study guides to prepare myself and to assist students. In the first half-hour, or before lessons begin via email or phone, I assess each student's individual needs. Each student learns differently, which is why I reject one size fits all solutions. Having identified the concerns, I tailor tutoring sessions to the individual. For example, many students are visual or kinetic learners, so the use of graphs and other visual aids is especially useful to get to the solution, and to build on basic concepts. I do a lot of work outside sessions on my own time to make sure every session is productive. If I feel I am not the best tutor for you, I will tell you immediately and help you find a better match.
Please feel free to contact me with your questions and concerns about your educational needs. You'll find me a good listener and a prompt correspondent. Before you hire me, I want to know about you and your education goals. Before we start, I will review your syllabus and assignments to craft a custom program that meets your immediate needs. I will never waste your valuable time.

My daughter has been struggling with AP US History all semester. She has been working with Larry for the past 3 weeks and is starting to get a better understanding of the material. She took her 1st quiz since she started working with Larry and she got a C! This is the 1st quiz she has pasted this semester. I’m sure this is just the start and will be making As before long.Chilnille, 6 lessons with Larry
Larry is truly invested in your success!
Larry is an amazing tutor! I would not have passed the Indiana bar without him. He is effective, understanding, reliable, and best of all he is truly invested in your success and is determined to make you pass! I had taken the bar before and had failed by 6 points in another jurisdiction. I had some major life events happen and was faced with having to take the Indiana bar with 0 material and a crushed ego from failing previously. Besides trying to study for the bar I also had to work, be a mother, and be a caretaker to my sick husband. Any other tutor would have sent me off and told me to wait. A few did. Not Larry! He believed in me and knew what was at stake for me and my family. Larry keeps it real and doesn't sugarcoat. He gives you concrete feedback. He has a lot of strategies and tips through his years of experience. He is not out for your money. He is an attorney but an educator at heart. I got sworn in this past Monday as an attorney! If you want to pass-hire him. And put the work in!Mayra, 8 lessons with Larry
Excellent Bar Exam preparation
I was looking for someone to tutor me to help me pass the Indiana Bar Exam in February of 2017. I had tried a big-box company and found it lacking. I needed someone to articulate the issues with my writing and keep me focused on studying. Larry V. was an excellent tutor for three reasons. First, he is easy to talk to and is very patient. Second, he has passed the Indiana Bar and has studied the types of questions that are frequently asked. He understands how to craft essays that please the graders. Third, he charged a reasonable price for his services. He didn't try to squeeze extra money out of our agreement. He clearly spent more time talking to me and reviewing my work than he charged in terms of hours. In about 10 lessons, he helped me improve my essay-writing and offered other test strategies that I employed on the actual Exam. His suggestions and strategies yielded results and I passed the February 2017 Bar Exam. I am forever thankful to Larry for his help and the excellent service he provided. I would recommend him to anyone taking the Indiana (or other) Bar Exam in the future.Alex, 11 lessons with Larry

Its very hard to find a great tutor for the bar exam-- so many will talk to you but really offer little direction. Larry is not like that at all, he's actually really a fantastic tutor! We worked on my writing for the MPT a week before the bar exam. He helped me structure my analysis, sent my guidelines as to how to produce each MPT assignment, reviewed sample mpt's that I wrote. He honestly was excellent and affordable.Doris, 1 lesson with Larry
Very helpful, detailed, knowledgable and prepared.
Larry tutored me three times now and so far, I really like his teaching methods in LSAT. He is very informative and he is so smart that he can spot things I didn't even noticed that it makes me easier to understand the concepts and structure of the LSAT. He is kind, funny and prepared for the lesson all the time. I am feeling confident with my upcoming exam. I want to thank Larry for being such a great tutor!Nicky, 6 lessons with Larry
