after the holidays pilar paid $2.80 for a roll of wrapping paper. this was 30% of the original price. What was the original price of the wrapping paper?

Call the original price P
 
.3P = 2.8    Divide both sides by .3
P = 2.8/.3
P = $9.33

(30%)P produces a value that is rounded to $2.80.  That means that P=$9.32 or P=$9.33 or P=$9.34.
