While Graphing parabolas given the equation how do you determine the x value needed to create the chart for example 2x^2-3 how would you graph this parabola.

Simply choose some values for x, then plug them in and solve for y.

 

It is often best to use values that make the equation easy to solve.

 

For example

 

 x     y

 -1   2(-1)²-3  = -1 

  0   2(0)²-3    = -3

  1   2(1)²-3    = -1

 

Then plot (-1,-1), (0,-3), (1,-1) and you can see the parabola start to develop.
