The retail cost R is equal to 100% of
the Purchase Cost P plus 325% more of
the Purchase Cost so:
R = 100%(P) + 325%(P) convert % to numbers
R = (100/100)P + (325/100)P
R = 1P + 3.25P
R = 4.25P
The retail cost for which the gallery owner +
sells the painting is 4.25 times the purchase cost.
Note that 100%(P) + 325%(P) = 425%(P) = 4.25P
