x^2+1=2x+1

Hi,

   I am having trouble Finding out what the solution is for x. Can you please show me what the solution  is to x and how you got it please?

X^2+1=2x+1  Bring everything to the left side of equation. 

       -1.      -1

x^2.    = 2x

      -2x.  -2x

x^2-2x=0

Factor out x and set each term to 0

x(x-2)=0

x=0 and x-2=0 

                +2. +2

              X=2

 

two solutions x=0,2

x²+1=2x+1

Let's move everything to one side by subtracting (2x+1) from both sides...

(x²+1)-(2x+1)=(2x+1)-(2x+1)

(x²+1)-(2x+1)=0

Let's eliminate 1-1...

x²-2x=0

Let's factor...

(x-2)(x+0)=0

Let's FOIL...

FIRST...(x)(x)=x²

OUTER...(x)(0)=0

INNER...(-2)(x)=-2x

LAST...(-2)(0)=0

 

x-2=0

and

x+0=0

x=0 and 2
