Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT Math

I've tutored math at the high school and college level for over 20 years, including algebra, geometry, trigonometry, pre calculus, and statistics.
Many of these items are used on the ACT Math test and I've worked with many different methods of solving these type of test questions, from backward elimination to substituting in choices.

Algebra 1

I have an MA in economics with minors in Math and Physics and have tutored all levels of Math from elementary through post graduate for over 20 years. Algebra 1 is the basic building block of any advanced mathematics and I have helped countless students master it. I can help you master the key to understanding math!

Algebra 2

I've tutored math at the high school and college level for over 20 years, including algebra, geometry, trigonometry, pre calculus, calculus and statistics. I help students take the fundamentals from Algebra 1 to a higher level and advance to algebra 2 and beyond!

Calculus

I've been tutoring all levels of math for over 20 years, from elementary through calculus. I work with students of all ages, from 10 through adult. I help students understand and master limits, differentiation and integration as well as the applications to problems that are presented.

Economics

I have both a BA and MA in Economics from Rutgers University with minors in both math and physics. I've been tutoring academic subjects for more than 20 years for all levels, from elementary through graduate students. I used economic theory in the job market and taught it in the classroom.

Elementary Math

I've tutored dozens of students over the last 15 years at all different levels of math from elementary through graduate students. I have a MA in economics from Rutgers and minors in both math and physics.

Finite Math

Finite Math includes everything but calculus. I have tutored all levels of math (including calculus) for more than 20 years. I have been successful as a tutor from algebra through Precalculus and statistics. Finite math also involves organization and analysis of data. I have done that in my previous career as a data analyst manager.

Geometry

I've tutored math at the high school and college level for over 20 years, including algebra, geometry, trigonometry, pre calculus, calculus and statistics. Geometry is a college prep subject and has many real world uses. It is also a key item on standardized tests. I can help students understand the basics as well as the more advanced intricacies and applications.

GRE

I have worked w all levels of students from those who are still taking college classes to those who have been in the professional world and haven't taken a math course in 10+ years. I have taught many students the basics as well as advanced topics up to and including calculus. I use the approach that there are multiple ways to solve a problem and there are more efficient ways to solve it under time constraints. I point out the different approaches that work best for each type of problem. Grad school and the GRE require advanced thinking and I can help you get there.

Physics

If your child is having a difficult time with physics, I can help them not only with the concepts in science, but also using the math to solve equations. Having a physics minor and many students who I tutor has given me plenty of experience.

Praxis

Prospective teachers preparing to take the Praxis exam can find subjects like math difficult. I help students overcome their challenges by looking at different ways to tackle these problems and that also gives them ideas on how to teach future students one day. Covering subjects ranging from decimals, fractions, geometry and word problems, I introduce many ways to go about analytical thinking and allow students to grasp these concepts.

Prealgebra

Prealgebra is is foundation to a students' mathematical journey. It is usually at this stage where students either blossom or wither. I have helped 100s of struggling students overcome their fear of math and I've also advanced students to the phases where they are successful in advanced mathematics. I have coached hundreds of students through this phase, including my own children. (I currently have twins with learning disabilities each having earning an A in this enriched course). It is the best place to start tutoring in prealgebra, because if you don't grasp these concepts, the higher levels of math can be difficult.

Precalculus

I've tutored math at the high school and college level for over 10 years, including algebra, geometry, trigonometry, pre calculus, calculus and statistics. I use precalculus to demonstrate a higher level of learning and help students see how understandable it actually is.

Probability

I've taught probability and statistics courses at the college level and have used probability in my business career as well. I've tutored math at the high school and college level for over 10 years, including algebra, geometry, trigonometry, precalculus, and probability and statistics.

PSAT

I've tutored math at the high school and college level for over 20 years, including algebra, geometry, trigonometry, precalculus, calculus and statistics. Many of these items are used on the PSAT test and I've worked with many different methods of solving these type of test questions, from backward elimination to substituting in choices. I have worked with students who were National Merit Scholarship qualifiers.

SAT Math

I've tutored math at the high school and college level for over 20 years, including algebra, geometry, trigonometry, precalculus, and statistics. Many of these items are used on the SAT test and I've worked with many different methods of solving these type of test questions, from backward elimination to substituting in choices.

SSAT

I have worked with dozens of students who are applying for private schools. Some take the SSAT others take the ISEE. I have experience with the lower, middle and upper level tests and have helped many students overcome their weaknesses and master the tests.

Statistics

I have tutored statistics at all levels including Harvard Graduate students. I have taught statistics as an adjunct at Rutgers NCAS. I have worked in the field and used statistics in my field of econometric forecasting.

Trigonometry

I help students understand the basics of the theory behind the trigonometry and its applications.

Great first tutoring session!

I met Karin for the first time today and she did a great explaining everything! First we did a basic review and then we went over homework problems that would be similar to the problems that are on my exam. I definitely high recommend her to anyone needing statistics help. What she was able to explain to me in an hour is what my statistics professor was able to explain to me over the past 5 weeks,
