Cognitive dissonance is a protective state. It is a check of our conscious. You walk out of a store and realize you forgot to pay for something or they gave you too much change. You enter a state of dissonance to justify to your set of morals the decision you make. We all want to be good people and maintain our sense of morality. Dissonance forces us to either work within our current set of morals or to change them with a justification like the business is a multibillion dollar company and won’t miss this whatever.
