Bearings (maths question)

Question

"Martin and Janet are in an orienteering race.

 

Martin runs from checkpoint A to checkpoint B, on a bearing of 065°

Janet is going to run from checkpoint B to checkpoint A.

 

Work out the bearing of A from B"

 

I would like to know how I can work this out, as I only have the answer to this question (bearing 245)

Pt A to Pt B on bearing 065deg.....given

 

Going from Pt B to Pt A means you are going back in the

       opposite direction, or 180deg from the initial bearing.

Add 180 to 65....

180+65=245

 

Therefore, return bearing from Pt A to Pt B is 245deg.

Hi Saiyan, if you run in a straight line in one direction, and turn around and run back to the starting point, you have turned around 180 degrees.

 

It does not matter what angle you start at, you will always turn 180 degrees to return to the starting point.

 

Here, you start at a bearing of 65^º. To return to the starting point, add 65 to the 180 to get the return bearing of 245^º.
