Solve the system by graphing.If the system is inconsistent and has no solution,state this .If the system is dependent,write the form of the solution for any real number x.

(1) y=-5x+6
3x-4y=-24


(2)y=5x-4
10x-2=6

3x-4y=-24

rewrite the second equation slope intercept form -4y=-3x-24 or y=(3/4)x+6

The equations are

y=-5x+6

y=(3/4)x+6

They are two straight lines, intersecting at the point (0,6), their equal y-intercept.

The first with slope -5 the second with slope 3/4

 

(2)y=5x-4
10x-2=6

The second line, if it is not mistaken, is really the vertical line 10x=8 or x=8/10

The point for x=8/10 on the first line is y=5(8/10)-4=0.
