7) A rectangular water tank measures 4 m long, 2 m wide and 4.8 m high. Initially it is half filled with water. Find the depth of water in the tank after 4000 litres more of water are added to it.

1 meter = 100 centimeters, then, 1 cubic meter = 1x10⁶ cubic centimeters

 

1 liter = 1,000 cubic centimeters, but we have 4,000L which means  1,000cm³/L x 4,000L = 4 x 10⁶cm³

 

then, 4 x 10⁶cm³ / 1 x 10⁶cm³/m³ = 4m³

 

the area of the tank is 4m x 2m = 8m²

 

then, 4m³ / 8m² = 0.5m which would be the increase in the height of the water.

since the tank is 1/2 full, the new water depth will be 2.4m + 0.5m = 2.9m
