If the Sunday circulation for The New York Times is 384 thousand more than the circulation than the Los Angeles Times, and their combined circulation is 2494 thousand, find the circulation for each newspaper.

1. let x = chimpanzee life, then x + 24 = elephant life; therefore, x + 2 +24 = 130; 2x + 24 = 130 2x = 106; x = 53

So, elephant life is 53 + 24 = 77; 53 + 77 = 130

 

25. x= LA time, x + 384000 = NY Times; x + x 384000 = 2494000; 2x = 2110000; x = 1055000

So, NY Times is 1439000; 1439000 + 1055000 = 2494000
