A sum  of money is to be divided among Ali, Brent and Carol in the ratio 2:3:5, Carol’s share amounts to $ 1050.  Calculate

(A) The total sum of money to be shared

(B) Brent’s share

The money is divided into 2 + 3 + 5 = 10 parts.  Carol's share is 5/10 = $1050, which is 1/2 (5/10) of the total sum which is therefore = 2*$1050 = $2100.

• Ali's share is (2/10) * ($2100) =  $420
• Brent's share is (3/10)*($2100) = $630

 

$420 + $630 + $1050 = $2100
