On Sunday, a local hamburger shop sold a combined total of
536
hamburgers and cheeseburgers. The number of cheeseburgers sold was three times the number of hamburgers sold. How many hamburgers were sold on Sunday?

let the no. of hamburgers sold on Sunday be x.

So no. of cheeseburgers sold on Sunday = 3 times of hambergers

                                                           = 3x

 

         total hambergers sold = 536

 

therefore ,

                        x + 3x = 536

                              4x = 536

                               x = 536 / 4

                               x = 134

 

so , No. of hamburgers  = x 

                                  = 134

 

      No. of cheeseburgers = 3x

                                      = 3* 134

                                      = 402
