A box of fruit has four more apples than oranges. All together there are 52 pieces of fruit. How many of reach type are there.

Let x = the number of oranges, then x + 4 = the number of apples

 

x + x + 4 = 52

2x + 4 = 52

2x = 48

x = 24

 

So, there are 24 oranges and 28 apples.
