If you mean to find the sum of first 10 terms of the series, then you have to use the formula for

a geometric series:

 

            Sum (of n first terms) = (qⁿ - 1)/(q-1)               (1)

 

In your example the sum is 

 

                   Sum = (1/2) (1 +3 +3² + 3³ +..........+ 3⁹)

 

Thus,  q = 3, n= 9, and if you plug these numbers into (1), then you will find

 

                  Sum = 4921
