It sounds like you are talking about a rectangular shaped box in essence... with volume being
(length)(width)(height) or V = LWH
If you triple only one of those dimensions then the product goes up by a factor of 3
V = 3LWH
3(16) = 48cm3 or 48 cubic centimeters
