When you have an expression that has already been factored like this you can just set each part equal to 0 in order to solve. On this one that means

c - 25 = 0   ==>     c = 25

c + 50 = 0 ==>      c = -50

This equation has two answers. Any real number times 0 equals 0.  This is called the zero property of multiplication. Therefore either (c-25) has to equal zero, or (c+50) has to equal zero.

SOLUTION:  (c-25)(c+50)= 0

(c-25) = 0

C-25+25 = 0+25   (add 25 to both sides)

c=25= answer 1

 

(c+50) = 0

C+50-50 = 0 - 50 (subtract 50 from both sides)

c= -50 = answer 2
