Or alternatively...

1.  √((x+5)2) = √0

2. (x+5) = 0

3. x + 5 - 5 = 0 - 5

4. x = -5

How did you come up with -8 and -2?

(x + 5)2 = 0 ----> (x + 5)(x + 5) = 0 ---> x + 5 = 0 ---> x = -5
