From problem statement: 8 slices = 1 pizza; 1 slice costs $0.70.
To find how many pizzas they order, you can add fractions from every one:
1/2 + 1/4 + 3/8 + 4/8 + 3/8
Make sure every fraction has the same denominator, THEN you can add the numerators:
4/8 + 2/8 + 3/8 + 4/8 + 3/8 = 16/8 = 2
So the boys order TWO (2) pizzas.
What does each boy pay for his pizza slices?
Find how many slices each boy will order, then multiply by the cost of a slice ($0.70)
Aaron will eat 1/2 of a pizza. Remember a pizza = 8 slices, so 1/2 x 8 slices = 4 slices.
Aaron will then pay 4 x $0.70 = $2.80.
Glenn will eat 1/4 of a pizza, so 1/4 x 8 slices = 2 slices. Glenn will then pay 2 x $0.70 = $1.40.
James will eat 3/8 of a pizza, so 3/8 x 8 slices = 3 slices. James will then pay 3 x $0.70 = $2.10.
Use same approach for Matt and Trevor, and you'll get the answers (Matt eats same amount as Aaron, so should pay same as Aaron. Trevor should pay same as James for same reason)
