Perimeter is the distance around the outside of a shape. Calculated by adding up the lengths of all the sides of the shape.
Area is the amount of space inside a shape. Calculated by multiplying the length by the width for a rectangle.

My Notes: Area vs. Perimeter
Area is the space inside of a 2-D shape.
A= LxW —->Area of a Rectangle = Length x Width
( You must have both side in the same units ( ex. feet, inches, miles )
Perimeter is the distance around the outside of a 2-D shape.
P= S+S+S+S
Perimeter of a Rectangle = Side+ Side+ Side+ Side
P= S+S+S
Perimeter of a triangle = Side + Side= Side
Hint: 2-d- stand for 2 Dimensional . These are flat shapes. Like a piece of paper is a Rectangle .

Perimeter is the line that goes all the way around the shape.
Think of it like walking around the edge of a playground. For example: if a rectangle is like a fenced yard, the perimeter is the length of the fence.
Area is the space inside the shape.
Think of how much grass is inside the yard that you can run and play on. For example: if you want to know how many tiles you need to cover the floor, you're finding the area!
Visual learners: Perimeter = Path around. Both start with p
Kinesthetic learners: Chalk on the ground to walk the perimeter and square tiles to fill the space.
Auditory Learner: Perimeter and Area rhyme or song
