Master World History: Engaging Lessons for Deeper Understanding
Great question! Most people think of Columbus in 1492, but the first known European to reach North America was actually Leif Erikson, a Norse explorer from Iceland. Around 1000 AD, he and his Viking crew landed in what is now Newfoundland, Canada, establishing a small settlement called Vinland. This was confirmed by archaeological findings at L’Anse aux Meadows, showing that the Vikings beat Columbus to North America by nearly 500 years!
As a tutor, I love these kinds of historical insights because they challenge what we think we know. Let me know if you need any help diving deeper into history or reading comprehension—I’d be happy to help!
