trinomial cubic
3 terms 3 degree
Hello, thank you for taking the time to post your question!
The general form here would be
-18a^3 – 22a^2 + 54a because you would go in order from highest degree to lowest degree
Since this has 3 terms that means that it’s a trinomial and the degree is 3 since the exponent on the “a” term is 3, meaning that it’s a cubic function
I hope that helps get you moving in the right direction! Feel free to reach out if you still have questions beyond that :)

You need to start by putting the terms in order from highest exponent to lowest. That puts the polynomial in general form.
-18x3 - 22a2 + 54a now look at the exponents. (3,2,1) The degree off the trinomial is the highest exponent which in this case is 3
-18a3 - 22a2 + 54a
This is a trinomial as there are 3 terms (-18a3, -22a2, and 54a). The trinomial has degree 3 since the largest exponent is 3. General form means to write the terms with the powers of the variable in decreasing order.
Hi Grant
You can check out a previous problem of yours that I answered and posted with some instructions that apply to classifiying and naming polynomials. I’ve listed them again below
To classify and write polynomials, you need to identify the degree of the polynomial (based on the highest exponent) and the number of terms it has, then use the appropriate names like "linear," "quadratic," "cubic," "monomial," "binomial," or "trinomial" to describe it; always write the polynomial in standard form, meaning the terms are ordered from highest to lowest exponent.
Your expression has three terms and the highest exponent is 3, try the instructions above and apply them to get an answer.
