We must identify the terms that can be combined. They must have the unknown x value to the same power. So the 3x^2 and the 2x^2 are considered "like terms". They are combined by adding the coefficients 3.+ 2. The power on the x does NOT change. So this part is 5 x^2
The terms -5x and -7x are like terms because the x values each have the power of 1 (unwritten). So combine them by adding the coefficients -5 and -7 to get -12. Again, the power on the x does NOT change. So this part is -12x.
The terms +8 and +9 are like terms because they are constants with no attached x's. Just add 8 + 9.
So this part is 17.
Put it all together, the solution is 5x^2 - 12x + 17

Step 1: Combine like terms by performing addition of the coefficients or variables.
3x^2 + 2x^2 = 5x^2 , -5x+-7x = -12x, 8 + 9 =17
Step 2: Rewrite the polynomial expression.
5x^2 - 12x + 17
Solution:
The simplified expression is 5x^2 - 12x + 17.
