Together they had 100 tickets, so:
a + e = 100
Alberto (a) has 12 tickets less than Elian(e).
a = e - 12
Since the 2nd equation already has a in terms of e, substitute the expression for "a" into the 1st equation (substitution for equality).
(e - 12) + e = 100
2e - 12 = 100
2e = 112
e = 56
a = 56 - 12 = 44
Elian has 56 tickets.
Alberto 12 less than that: 44
And 56 + 44 = 100
