8x + (1/3) y = 0 AND 12x + 3 = y. Since the 2nd equation already has y in terms of x use (12x + 3) for y in the 1st equation.
8x + (1/3)(12x + 3) = 0
8x + 4x + 1 = 0 (distribute 1/3 over the binomial is probably the easiest way to solve)
12x = -1
x = -(1/12)
So y = 12(-1/12) + 3 = -1 + 3 = 2
