Using the slope-intercept form of a line:
y=mx+b
We can substitute m (the given slope) with 2
y=2x+b
And substitute x and y with the x and y coordinates of the point given, in this case (-1,-7) means
x= -1 and y= -7
y=2x+b
(-7)=2*(-1)+ b
Now we solve for b (the intercept):
-7= -2+b
-5=b
Now that we know m (given in the original problem) and b (which we just found) this gives us enough information to complete the equation of a line in slope-intercept form:
y=mx+b
y= 2x-5
