If the cost was $1 per candy bar then the cost for 15 would $15. How about if the cost was $2 per candy bar. Then total cost would be 15($2) = $30. Note that $30/15 = $2, which is the cost of 1 candy bar.
For this problem the total cost is $18.45 for 15 bars. You do not know the cost for 1 candy bar, but can determine that by following the same pattern: Total-Cost/#bars equals cost per candy bar, that is $18.45/15 = $1.23 per candy bar. To check your work, does 15(1.23) equal 18.45?
