Math and science made easy - learn from a retired engineer
Maybe this will help:
You are given a1 (the first term) is -12
To find the next term (a2), take the previous term (a1 which is -12) and add 9 so:
a2 = a1 + 9
a2 = -12 + 9
a2 = -3
To find the next term (a3), take the previous term (a2 which is -3) and add 9 so:
a3 = a2 + 9
a3 = -3 + 9
a3 = 6
To find the next term (a4), take the previous term (a3 which is 6) and add 9 so:
a4 = a3 + 9
a4 = 6 + 9
a4 = 15
So the sequence looks like this:
-12, -3, 6, 15, . . .

Retired Engineer / Upper level math instructor
Given:
a0 = -12
an = an-1 + 9
a1 = a0 + 9 = -12 + 9 = -3
a2 = a1 + 9 = -3 + 9 = 6
a3 = a2 + 9 = 6 + 9 = 15
