The sum of two numbers means add them together.
One of the numbers is represented by u and the other is 2.
So the sum is represented by u + 2.
Now we want one-fifth of that sum, which means multiply by 1/5.
1/5 (u + 2)
If you were told that the result of that operation was 20 (for example), then you could write an equation and solve for u.
1/5 (u + 2) = 20
u+2 = 100 (multiply both sides by 5)
u = 98
