The ACT Science section is arguably the most poorly-named exam in the world of standardized testing, as it is not really a test of Science at all. By that, I mean that it does not actually test your knowledge of any scientific subject matter - such as Biology, Geology, Physics, Chemistry, etc - but actually tests your ability to read and interpret data from graphs, charts, and tables and use this data to answer questions.
These graphs/charts/tables and the questions about them are always accompanied by short passages about the experiment that was conducted to generate the data. Traditionally, there were always 7 passage sets (each with 5 - 7 questions), but since 2015 the number of passages per section has varied from 6 to 8 passages per section. Regardless of the number of passages in the section, however, the entire section always contains a total of 40 questions to be answered in 35 minutes.
It is, in some ways, an extension of the ACT Reading test in that it tests a very similar capacity to locate relevant information and match what you find to a set of answer choices. In fact, one of the passages will always BE a Reading passage that is not accompanied by graphs/charts/tables. While it is a very time-intensive section (40 questions in 35 minutes), it is VERY doable with a solid strategy in place.
My ACT Science strategy has transformed the scores of hundreds of students over the years in just ONE HOUR. Within 3-4 weeks of continuous practice, the vast majority are also able to finish the entire section in time while still achieving 90-100% accuracy. Reach out to learn more!
