Mr and Mrs Smith Buy tickets for them and their four children, the cost of an adult ticket costs £6 more than the cost of a child's ticket. The total cost of all six ticket's is £40.50, how much does an adults ticket cost.

(X, Y) = (C, A)

ADULT: (2) = C + 6

CHILD: (4) = C

TOTAL: (6) = 40.50

CHILD + ADULT = TOTAL

Add 6 to get the adult ticket cost if you find the CHILD ticket cost.

A + A + C + C + C + C = TOTAL TICKETS COST

(C+6) + (C+6) + C + C + C + C = TOTAL TICKET COST

6C + 12 = 40.50

6C = 28.50

C = 4.75; A = 10.75

10.75 + 10.75 + 4.75 + 4.75 + 4.75 + 4.75 = 40.50
